EU SCHENGEN VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR KENYANS TRANSITING EUROPEAN UNION MISLEADING

In the month of June 2022 there social media posts claiming that there were a new set of rules by European Union(EU) that required Kenyans travelling to other countries through Europe to have Schengen Transit Visa. The viral posts came when the Kenyan Ambassador to France, Judy Wakhungu stated that Kenya Citizens travelling to destinations outside EU via Schengen cities such as Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt would require transit visas. This raised concerns on how it would be a hustle and a bit more expensive for one to apply for the transit visa. Despite having alternatives of using routes that does not transit through EU countries such as Dubai, Qatar and Addis Ababa, the claims would thereafter emerge to be untrue.

KENYAN SCHENGEN VISA RULE MISLEADING

The transit visa in question would only be required only if one exited the airport. This was made clear by the Official Account of EU in Kenya through their twitter account.

Do Kenyans Transiting through Schengen countries require a transit visa?

Kenyans transiting through Schengen countries will therefore not be required to apply for any transit visa however their destination visa requirements will apply.
